Turate near Milan, Italy. Zani S.p.A. forming machines (Zani) manufactures mechanical presses for cold forming sheet steel and has relied for years on Siemens as a technology partner when developing its presses.
This was also the case for the Servo Master, the most recent press, and the largest in the company’s history to date, with a press force of 3,200 tonnes and a table length of seven meters. Siemens automation and control components ensure reliability, flexibility and efficiency on the servo press. Connection to MindSphere, the cloud-based, open IoT (Internet of Things) operating system also facilitates extremely accurate performance analysis and predictive plant maintenance.
In combination with Simotics T torque motors, Sinamics S120 drives ensure high press performance as well as high flexibility and scalability

Motion control

Zani uses standard components from the Siemens controls and drives portfolio on the Servo Master. Motion control on the press is provided by the Simotion motion control system using the SimoPress Servo solution which was developed specifically for servo presses. In combination with Simotics T torque motors, Sinamics S120 drives ensure excellent press performance as well as high flexibility and scalability. The Servo Master system is controlled by a fail-safe Simatic S7 controller. The complete solution increases the overall productivity of the new machine. However, the Servo Master uses more than just Siemens hardware products.
As Zani wants to implement the benefits of digitalization for both itself and its customers, the company also uses software and digital solutions from the Siemens Digital Enterprise Portfolio.
