If shaft motors are used vertically, a counterweight is required to compensate the effect of gravity.
Without a counterweight, the motor shaft would fall when de-energised. In conventional designs, the spring counterweight is a critical component as the spring ages over time and requires special attention in terms of maintenance.
An innovative, maintenance-free counterweight called gLESS utilises magnetic force and enables uniform movement.

Compared to conventional spring counterweights, the magnetic counterweight offers the following advantages: The gLESS series is available in three sizes with diameters of 13, 18 and 18 mm. It covers force ranges of 2.66, 6.1 and 19.6 N and a working stroke of up to 40 mm.
gLESS components are designed as a non-contact solution and can be mounted very close to the shaft motor. Based on the scale-free linear motor SX060, NPM has launched a new complete linear motor unit equipped with this gLESS counterweight.
The linear motor does not require an external encoder and has almost no magnetic leakage flux, which means that compact applications with more than one motor can be realised with a distance of only 9 mm. It also requires no lubricant and shows no loss of performance due to wear or ageing.
Its long service life and freedom from maintenance therefore reduces system costs.

At SPS in Nuremberg (12 to 14 November, Booth 490 in Hall 4), Dynetics will present the new counterweight using a syringe drive based on a scale-free linear shaft motor and the contactless magnetic counterweight gLESS.
