Displays and touch screens in automation

Indicator lights and rotary switches have long since been replaced by displays and touch screens as HMI, the interface between man and machine. Only in safety-relevant operations can they still not be dispensed with. Displays are the output medium of electrical machine control.
Innovative technology
Displays show correlations and give detailed messages about the status of the machine. Touch screens allow values to be entered and modified where they are relevant. Because these components are so important for error-free operation of the machine, they must meet special requirements: The display must be easy to read at all times. While some parameters, such as the reading angle, result directly from the display data sheet, others require a system integrator who has the complete solution in mind. The touch screen not only has the task of accepting inputs, but also represents the front of the unit.

Customisation

The unit can be individualised and adapted to the area of application by machining the front panel with milling at corners and edges or cut-outs for mechanical switches, but also by printing everything from black masking of the active display area to the company logo. The functional setting of the touch controller for operation with gloves or when wetted with liquids such as water or coolant is made once by the system integrator. The values can then be adopted for all units of the same series. The HMI is made perfect by the design of the graphical user interface (GUI), with which the information is visualised in a user-oriented and practical manner. ds
