Capacitive silicone force sensor SXTSC1 by Sateco

Through its subsidiary, Sateco XT AG, Sateco is breaking new ground and adding the capacitive silicone sensor SXTSC1 to its portfolio of established keypad systems. The elastomer sensor works according to the capacitive operating principle and can continuously measure both touch and compressive force.

The sensor is soft and flexible, can be shaped three-dimensionally, and is suitable for various applications such as automotive, VR, AR, gaming, robotics, medical technology, and general industry. Both the sensor's footprint and dimensions can be freely designed. As a result, it can be customized to curved surfaces and integrated seamlessly between the body structure and surface. This enables an ergonomic design of input devices, prostheses, and exoskeletons both on small and large surfaces.

Novel operating and
measuring systems can be implemented

The sensor combines two measurement functions in one component. It can detect the approximation of a body part at a short distance and precisely measure its exerted force as well. This keeps the combination compact and enables predictive operating and measurement systems. Silicone is gentle on the skin. Optional texturing of the surface can make it even more comfortable to wear. Silicone is chemical and temperature-resistant with regard to food. When used as a measuring cell, the sensor can be easily integrated directly in the surface away from a circuit board using electrical connectors.

Wide temperature range

Its elastomer material makes additional damping, preload and tolerance compensation elements unnecessary. This simplifies the design and reduces manufacturing costs. Thanks to its elastomer material, the SXTSC1 sensor is robust, shock and impact-resistant, and it also enables high durability, even in rough environments at high (+85 °C) and low temperatures (-40 °C). Samples including evaluation electronics are available in a starter kit and enable a quick and uncomplicated start into the new technology. ds

Small pixels for higher image quality

Compact 29×29 mm industrial cameras with Sony Pregius S sensors up to 24 MP

Baumer is expanding its CX series with the 4th Sony CMOS sensor generation Pregius S with up to 24 megapixel resolution. Thanks to a pixel size of mere 2.74 µm and backside illumination pixel architecture, the camera has a very compact design (29 × 29 mm) and offers very high resolutions with excellent image quality and improved sensitivity for stable image evaluations.
The industrial cameras can be used in manufacturing plants, for example, to perform detailed surface inspections as part of quality controls or to measure increasingly small objects with precision. Existing systems can also be equipped with the higher resolution without having to change the mechanical setup. Thanks to the global shutter and short exposure time, quick objects can be reliably captured without motion artefacts. This allows the CX cameras to keep pace with increasing operational throughputs. The series expansion starts with the 24 MP sensor IMX540 for the CX cameras. Serial production of the cameras with 5, 8, 12, and 20 megapixel resolutions will commence gradually.

CMOS image sensors

The Baumer CX camera series includes 115 models offering an extensive sensor portfolio for cross-sector standard applications of industrial image processing. The standard versions in the 29×29 mm format offer an extensive range of functions as well as modern Sony Pregius, Pregius S, STARVIS, and Polarsens as well as ON Semiconductor PYTHON CMOS sensors for the future-oriented implementation of applications. Models with standard-compliant GigE Vision or USB3 Vision interfaces, with Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for precise time synchronization in Ethernet networks, with polarization sensors for the complete detection of the linear polarization state of surfaces, as well as global, rolling, or global reset shutters, allow a wide variety of application solutions. The CX cameras offer very good image quality and high frame rates – with the use of an ROI (Region of Interest) even with far more than 1000 fps. Easy camera integration with changing light conditions is ensured thanks to auto features for exposure, gain, white balance, and color transformation. ds
